Empowerment Technologies – A Student’s Opinion

Empowerment Technologies, for me as a Grade 11 Student, is more to just a mere Senior High School Curriculum Subject that is good for one semester. In this subject, I was able to learn a lot about the advantages and disadvantages of our modern technology. And was taught different things through the use of these technologies, that would be useful everyday and the future that is to come.

“The youth is the hope of our future.” – Dr. Jose Rizal

My fellow Netizens that are currently reading my blog. This wordpress blog was named “Experience IT (Information Technology)” because I would like to also empower you, especially the youth, through technology. Because I would like to share what I have learned in this Subject. This wordpress blog is just more to just a Performance Task that was given to us.

In the growth of our modern technology and the influence of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT), there will be Advantages and Disadvantages. I believe that besides Empowering today’s youth with technology, awareness of technology’s disadvantages must also be informed unto them. Disadvantages such as Hurtful Netizen Criticisms, Fake News, Hackers and Many more. ICT (Information and Communications Technology) must be used for a good purpose, the sharing of true and useful information. And through Empowerment Technology (E-Tech), the youth today may be updated and are able enjoy the Modern Technology for good and useful purposes.

Then again, this is just a mere opinion of a Grade 11 student.

This is Raphael Jumoad, and welcome to my Blog “Experience IT”!

E-Tech Notes #1: Kahoot!

Our class’ first ever activity was playing an application called “Kahoot!”.

It was a fun experience because we we’re able to be competitive in a friendly way and at the same time, were able to learn a lot of things.

This app is available for both Android and iOS and after installing, all you need is to set up your account and afterwards is type in the PIN of the quiz-activity given by your Teacher or the Reporter who gave the said activity.

This app can also let you do challenges of a certain topic, giving you levels with each having 3 questions.

Just give your best and have fun!

You may not have achieve the Top 3 spot, but at least your tried and had fun, and most importantly, had learned a thing or two.

E-Tech Notes #2: Facebook

Social Media is basically one of the needs of a person today. It is a place where Netizens (Citizens using the Internet) can use their freedom of speech.

The Number One Social Media Site that is rampant today is “Facebook”.

Made by Mark Zuckerberg and launched on the year 2004. Many people then switched from Myspace to the new Social Media site called “Facebook”.

It is very useful for the means of sharing information, communicating to other people and the sharing of one’s opinion. But then, there is a disadvantage of internet trolls, hackers, bashers/keyboard warriors and, the most rampant, judgmental netizens. Thus, Proper Netiquette rules must be observed: (according to socialmediamore.com“)

  • The Authenticity Rule.
  • The Google Rule.
  • The SPAM Rule.
  • Spreading the Love Rule.
  • The Personalize It Rule
  • The Off-limits Rule.
  • The Tag – You’re It Rule.
  • The When in Doubt, Don’t Rule.
  • The Send Button Rule.
  • The Acronyms Rule.

These rules may not be that easy to understand, but to make things short, just always remember to “Think before you click.” because even though you have a freedom of speech, the freedom of others must also still be observed.

E-Tech Notes #3: Office Lens

Need to have a digital copy of a document?

Or perhaps document your whiteboard notes?

Microsoft’s “Office Lens” can help you with that. This lets you take pictures of whiteboards, printed documents and many more, and enhances it afterwards. You can even crop it, sharpen and straightening it so that it would as if look like a scanned image.

So the next time you’re in a hurry to scan a file, just try “Office Lens”!

It’s both available for Android and iOS.

For my experience, it was just like using the “Notes” app in my phone since I can also scan documents through that app.

E-Tech Notes #4: Google Assistant

Our technology has definitely advanced throughout the years, making a difference today and for the future generations.

It has made our life easier and now, technology gave us Artificial Intelligence that helps us through Virtual Assistants such as Siri, Alexa, Cortana, Bixby, Clova and more.

Our class was introduce to Google’s very own “Google Assistant”.

It is downloadable through the Google Play Store and by saying “Hey Google”, you can now engage into a two-way conversation to Google Assistant, as if you’re talking to a real personal assistant.

It makes life easier, doesn’t it?

For me, I just used Siri since it had the same features and still accessible through saying “Hey Siri”.

E-Tech Notes #5: Speedtest

Have you ever tried wondering why your Youtube video that you’re watching keeps buffering?

Or why your Facebook takes too long to load?

Then, have you tried testing your internet’s speed?

Just download the app called “Speedtest”. It is available for both Android and iOS.

Through this app, you can measure how much is your internet’s download and uploading speed.

It is pretty much useful for me, because after that task, I started checking our internet’s speed more frequently.

E-Tech Notes #6: Mp3 Juices

Want to download a song from YouTube?

Just access the site “https://www.mp3juices.cc/” then look for the song you want to download. Different videos from Youtube, related to your search, would appear so that you can choose. You can then Play it to make sure or just download it directly.

Once you press download, it will now show up in your “Downloads” in your device. Just look for it in your device’s File Manager.

My personal experience with this was me having to find the File Manager because I am more used to iPhone than Android. But it was cool because I was able to learn more about Android phones.

Just a reminder that it only downloads in a .mp3 (MPEG-3) format. You can download videos from Youtube through “http://www.onlinevideoconverter.com

E-Tech Notes #7: ShareIt

If you need to have some files or another application transferred to another device, then the app “ShareIt” can help you.

“ShareIt” is available for both iOS and Android devices and also for Desktops and Laptops.

Just simply look for the file or application you want to transfer, and afterwards, look for the device that you want it to be transferred.

It is that easy!

Through this app, I was able to download some games that my friend shared to me.

E-Tech Notes #8: Find My Device

Unexpectedly lost your Android device?

As long as you logged in your Google Account in your phones, you can track it using an app called “Find My Device”.

This app tracks your phone using it’s IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) Number, a 15- or 17-digit code that gives your phone an identity.

Just simply access the app through the site “http://www.google.com/android/find/” or download the application “Find My Device” in another Android phone or iOS device.

Once your phone is tracked by the application, you can then ring an alarm through the device so you can go look for it as it rings. You can also lock it, as you go look for it. And if you unluckily can’t find it, and is worried about the crucial information stored in the device, you have an option for deleting the phone’s data.

As for iOS devices, they also have an “Find iPhone/iOS Device” application, that is already installed beforehand, with the same features. It can track any Apple Devices as long as an Apple ID is signed in to the device and is recognized. Their application is accessible through their iCloud site.

E-Tech Notes #9: Google Drive

Need a place to store your digital files and easily access it anywhere, anytime and anyplace?

“Google Drive” is a Google application where you can store files safely, as long as you have a Google Account.

It is a cloud, where you are able to keep documents, pictures, videos and other files, with a storage capacity minimum of 15GB (You can upgrade your storage to 100GB for Php89/month or 1TB for Php479/month).

Access any files anytime, anyplace and anywhere. You can even make documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings and more, through this app, and have it saved in the cloud.

Laptops using ChromeOS also have it’s device backed up on Google Drive. It is guaranteed and reliable as long as you don’t share your Google Account to anyone else.

This app is available for Android and iOS, and is accessable also in PCs and Laptops through the link “http://drive.google.com“.
